Murray Bailey

Murray Bailey has over 25 years of experience in consumer credit risk management, having had both operational responsibilities and technical scoring roles. He has been CRO of GE Capital Bank, CRO (interim) of Northern Rock, Group Credit Risk Director (interim) of Cattles PLC and Head of Credit Risk (interim) of ING Direct and acted as Part-time Risk Director for both Wonga.com and Zopa limited.

Murray started his career at Coopers & Lybrand, where he part qualified as an accountant before joining Welbeck Finance to build scorecards and analyse profitability. In 1990 he left to be Credit Director of Storecard Ltd, part of Citibank, moved into the head office covering all consumer products before joining HFC Bank where for 7 years and was the Director of Credit Policy.

Murray established Windsor in 1997 and developed the suite of training courses including the Diploma in Consumer Credit Risk Management. He has been the editor of Credit Risk International, a magazine on the science and strategy of credit, and edited and contributed to five books on credit scoring, underwriting, collections and statistics.

Murray has a first class degree in Physics from Southampton University and a Masters equivalent (Part III) from Cambridge University in Applied Mathematics.

Paolo Vareschi

Paolo Vareschi has been using numerous statistical and reporting packages for over 12 years. As a Senior Credit Risk consultant he has spent 5 years in the industry working with several blue chips companies and sub-prime lenders. In his early career he worked as an IT contractor for 6 years before moving into financial analysis, reporting and forecasting.

Paolo is an experienced coach and trainer in the use of SAS for reporting and segmentation. He has recently worked on providing best practice advice on data management, preparation and segmentation. At the start of 2009 he worked on the segmentation and analysis of a £400m debt sale for Welcome Finance. He also developed a suite of reports for portfolio management of Shop-a-check.

His current areas of interest focus on collections and recoveries strategies for hard debt.

In addition to his MSc in Information Technology Engineering from University of Padua, Italy, Paolo has Diplomas in Scientific Studies and Credit Risk Management. He also has professional qualifications in Data Mining and Statistics.
